Reva Nxg – Nxr Electric Cars
I have heard absolutely nothing but good things about the new Reva NXG and NXR electric cars. Because I commute fifty miles each way to work every day, and because the cost of gasoline keeps going up, I am definitely in the market for affordable, reliable transportation that will not cost me a fortune to run.
The Reva NXG/NXR are built by the Reva Electric Car Company. They are based in Bangalore, but are backed by India’s Maini Group and California’s Draper Fisher Jurvetson and the Global Environment Fund. Actually, there are two different models. The NXR seats four passengers, and is a three door hatchback. This car is ideal for driving around the city. The NXG only seats two passengers, but it is much s
portier and has a targa roof.
The NXG in Reva NXG/NXR stands for NeXT Generation, and has a range of about 125 miles and can amazingly get up to eighty miles an hour. This would be perfect for me. It would allow me to go to work and get home, and then recharge the car overnight. Another great feature of the NXG is a system that Reva calls REVive. This is a fast charging system that will allow the car to be recharged in as few as fifteen minutes. Using this system will allow the car to travel up to 250 miles in a day.
The other car in the Reva NXG/NXR is the NXR. This is the family car. This slick little car has a top speed of sixty-five miles per hour, and can go 100 miles on a standard charge.
Using the regular fast charge on the Reva NXG/NXR allows these cars to be recharged in ninety minutes. With this type of charging they can be driven approximately 200 miles a day.
Despite the fact that the Reva NXG/NXR cars are small and relatively inexpensive, they are extremely well built, and come with many of the features you would expect to find on larger, more expensive cars. For example, they have key-less entry, intelligent digital displays, and dual charging ports. The dashboard display will tell the driver such things as how many miles can still be driven on the remaining charge, and how long it will take to give the car a full standard charge.
One incredible feature of the Reva NXG/NXR cars is what Reva calls telematics. This is a remote system that will check the remaining charge, and automatically give the batteries a small amount if energy. This is designed to get the motorist to a destination when his batteries are just about exhausted.
One of the Reva NXG/NXR cars may very well be the perfect car for me. I am really looking forward to a test drive.
